Gluten-Free Snacks

June 2, 2011 § 1 Comment

Do you know someone who cannot tolerate gluten because they suffer from celiac disease?  One in 133 (or three million) Americans have the disease according to Forbes.

Every day there is more information available from blogs like Shauna Ahern’s fun and educational blog Gluten Free Girl and the Chef (visit the site for her inspirational story and resources page) and major news outlets such as The New York Times.  Just today the paper published an article with gluten-free recipes. Have celiac disease, there is a pizza to be bought or made, same thing with doughnuts, hamburger buns, and just about everything else you can imagine….but (there had to be one, this is too big) that doesn’t mean it is always easy. Imagine being hungry, you forgot lunch, and are on the way to a meeting and nope that hotdog cart won’t do nor will that pizza joint. Even a salad bar can pose a problem (some dressings and soups are a no no). What having celiac disease means is you simply have to be prepared. A little prep work and things are bound to run much smoother. Best/worse case scenario have some snacks on hand you know are gluten-free. A really nice gesture when spending the day with someone you know is intolerant to gluten is to bring along a snack you can both enjoy. After all, something like a bag of our raw almonds or dried apricots is not going to set you back more than a latte or two.

At Fastachi we’ve got you covered. A list of a few of our gluten-free items:
harvest nut mix
super nut mix
Pb & J mix
fruit passion mix
all raw nuts
all roasted nuts (salted and unsalted) EXCEPT sesame peanuts
all nut butters
all dried fruits EXCEPT all glazed fruits and dried blueberries
